About HSNA
In March 2003 the music faculty at Scripps College in cooperation with the Haydn Festspiele, Eisenstadt, Austria under the direction of Dr. Walter Reicher, Intendant, launched the Haydn Society of California, with Dr. Jane O'Donnell serving as its executive director. The Haydn Society of California joined the thirteen already existing Haydn Societies located throughout the world. By the Society's second biennial conference, which included presentations by scholars and performers from all parts of the Unites States, it became apparent that a continental organization would be more appropriate and beneficial for the diverse Haydn research and performance activities currently taking place in the US, Canada and Mexico. In November of 2006 a group of 25 scholars met in Los Angeles to institute the Haydn Society of North America.
The Haydn Society of North America encourages and promotes the performance and research of Joseph Haydn and his music. Membership is open to any individual or organization interested in these objectives.
